Collapse "Hey, Do You Do Block Grafts?"
Tooth loss, particularly when coupled with delayed replacement, causes challenges for treatment planning. The resultant alveolar ridge resorption often requires hard tissue ridge augmentation to increase bone volume prior to dental implant placement and restoration. This webinar, through the presentation of five cases from pre-surgery to final prosthetic placement, will discuss and show predictable methods to place block allografts to augment deficient ridges.

    Learning Objectives:
    1. When and why to block graft a deficient site
    2. Step-by-step process for placing irradiated block allografts of vertebral origin to augment deficient sites
    3. Site preparation, block preparation and proper design of incisions and flaps
    4. Rationale of materials used

Collapse Archived Webinar: Recognizing and Treating the Ailing and Failing Implant(s) - Part 1
Every dentist placing or restoring dental implants wants to know how to best detect early tissue or bone breakdown around a recently placed or mature implant in their patients.

The American Academy of Implant Dentistry is bringing the highlights of the very popular 2-day program on ailing implants directly to you through two webinars. This program was first presented at the 2011 Northeast/Southern District meeting.

The webcasts will be presented live on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 and Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 1 pm Eastern time (Noon Central; 11 a.m. Mountain, 10 a.m. Pacific). Each webcast will last 60 minutes and you will earn 1 CE credit (AGD Code 693) if you attend the live webinar. The presenters will help the implant dentist gain a better understanding of a "potential problem" or a "current problem" in some of their dental implant patients.

Doctors Alfred "Duke" Heller and Robert Heller, who presented a full-day program on the topic will lead the webinar and you will have the opportunity to ask questions of our expert presenters. Each day they will present different material and your registration includes a free 30-day archive access to the webinar:

    • How to prevent abutment screws from loosening
    • With over 100+ implant manufactures, how to determine which implant system just walked into your office
    • How to construct a policy for charging a fee to treat the ailing implant - your patient or a patient referred to your office

Collapse Archived Webinar: Classification of Extraction Site Defects - Practical Guidelines for Implant Site Development
Bone regenerative techniques for implant site development are not always easy to anticipate. A working knowledge of classical extraction site defects is a basic starting point that should not be overlooked.

Extraction site defects might result in loss of bone in critical areas necessary for successful immediate implant placement and stabilization. Immediate vs. delayed implant techniques include a wide range of options which can be debated. But the key factor is to "Begin with the end in Mind" and develop a personal set of guidelines to employ in day to day practice.

The posterior maxilla often presents to the clinician with inadequate bone to place dental implants of desired length. These surgical sites can often be managed with subantral bone graft procedure with ease and predictability, thereby avoiding a lateral wall approach. This webinar will present two different sinus grafting techniques to manage bone grafting from the crest. The "Standard" crestal osteotoming technique or "Summers Lift" will be presented, as well as a "Newer" rotary crestal rotary lift. The surgical rationale and management will be discussed for each technique, with the pros and cons of each procedure and a discussion of the how to deal with the possible complications.

Proper and ideal implant placement is imperative to the long-term success of any implant restoration, regardless if it's single unit, full-mouth fixed rehabilitation, or removable overdentures. The use of stents help guide the practitioner from the radiographic evaluation to the surgical site to optimize implant placement with an ideal prosthetic/restorative-driven outcome. Practical applications and guidelines in stent fabrication will be reviewed.

    • With over 100+ implant manufactures, how to determine which implant system just walked into your office

As the population ages more implant-candidates are taking medications to either treat or prevent osteoporosis.  The medications most often used are Bisphosphonates (BPs) or the newer monoclonal antibodies (MAs).  Both classes of these medications affect normal bone turnover, and in doing so put the patient at risk for osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ).  This presentation will explain the mechanism of action of BPs and MAs and the connection to ONJ.  Pathological issues, complications, and treatment decisions that are of concern to the patient and clinician will be discussed.

Our presenter, James L. Rutkowski DMD, PhD, has lectured extensively on this topic.  Dr. Rutkowski’s presentation is clinically relevant.  He will provide an algorithm for deciding when a patient is at risk and if ONJ does occur how it can be managed.
